Aerial racer Tail Drift no longer has refuelling but gets a questionable new power-up
Plus new planes, tracks, and other tweaks
Attract Mode Games has clearly heard your cries as the refuelling mechanic in Tail Drift has been removed with its latest update.
Being a free to play game, Tail Drift's "Gas" mechanic meant that you could run out of fuel and have to either endure a wait timer or spend Coins (the in-game currency) to get more fuel just so you could continue racing.
This wasn't a very popular system so it has been removed in the latest update. Now you can race as long as you want without having to refuel. Splendid.
Or is it? Added with this latest update is a Power-Up Machine. It seems like it may almost be a pay-to-win feature.
The Power-Up Machine gives you a "competitive advantage" at the start of a race. To get one, you can choose to watch a video ad or pay for one with Coins.
You'll still need to perform well for the rest of the entire race to win, but hmm, it's an odd one, isn't it?
Anyway, we'll see how that goes. Also included in this update are four new planes: Wildfire, Baxter, Tempest, and Monsoon.
There's also a brand new racing league called Aces High that adds nine tracks to play on. Plus, the end race music reel now has three different tracks depending on how you race.
Lastly is a new Coin Magnet power-up, reduced plane upgrade prices, and shorter time-trial races.
We gave Tail Drift a Silver Award in our review, saying that it's a "good-looking and playable racer" that "could conceivably become one of the best on the platform."
You can download Tail Drift for free on the App Store and Google Play right now.
