Slot car racer Anki Overdrive lets you build custom battle tracks, out in September 2015
Chaos at the intersection
Anki Overdrive has been announced today for a launch in September 2015.
As with last year's Anki Drive, it uses AI-driven slot cars that you drive across physical tracks using an iOS or Android app.
This time, however, the AI of the cars has been improved so that they can race across custom-made tracks.
To this end, the modular track pieces snap together magnetically. The new vehicle AI then uses a camera to scan its surroundings 500 times a second.
Not just that, the new super cars can be upgraded with virtual weapons and gadgets.
That'll come in handy as the AI Commanders and their crew make use of that new scanning technology to give you tough competition.
The Anki Overdrive Starter Kit will be available for $150 in September. It includes two super cars, 10 track pieces, a four-car charger, two risers, and a tyre cleaning kit.
Expansion packs will be sold for between $10 and $30, offering new track pieces including U-turns, banking, intersections, straights, and more.
The app that connects to the cars via Bluetooth will be available for free on iOS and Android.
