Spin-off of hardcore RPG series Dragon's Dogma is heading to the PS Vita
It might not be quite what you're expecting, though
The PS Vita is supposed to offer console-quality video game entertainment on the go.
And for the most part it does, with the likes of Uncharted: Golden Abyss and LittleBigPlanet proving that Sony's handheld has more than enough chops to hold its own against its more powerful brother.
Which is why we got so excited when we heard that a new Dragon's Dogma game, Dragon's Dogma Quest, had been announced for Vita.
Unfortunately, though, that excitement subsided slightly once we discovered it's a free-to-play online-only strategy-RPG title.
DogmaticIf you're not familiar with Capcom's Dragon's Dogma on home console, it's a huge, sprawling action-RPG in which you are cast as a hero (of sorts) in a bleak, gritty fantasy world.
It features real-time, meaty combat and an interesting system wherein you level-up an ally, called a Pawn, as you play. This Pawn can also go off and join other players' games, earning experience and knowledge as it does so.
Dragon's Dogma Quest, on the other hand, is a 2D multiplayer RPG in which you team up with other players' Pawns in bands of up to eight. You then explore dungeons, fight monsters, and level-up. The emphasis here is firmly on strategy; not action.
According to Japanese magazine Famitsu, Dragon's Dogma Quest will be available in Japan this autumn. Capcom hasn't confirmed a Western release yet. We'll keep you posted on that, of course, though.
