Welcome back to Pocket Gamer's weekly round-up of the latest iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad games.

Here's how it works. Because New Zealand is the first country to zip through the international date line, Kiwis get all the new apps first.

That's handy for us, as we get to see exactly what games will be available in the UK and US from around midnight this evening.

So, consider this a preview of what will be out when the clock strikes 12 this evening. Come back tomorrow and tell us which games you ended up downloading overnight. We'll be waiting for you.

Sugar Kid
By A Crowd of Monsters - buy on iPhone and iPad midweek-oct3-sugarkid

Here's this week's official iOS single-screen physics-puzzler, for your delectation.

In each of Sugar Kid's 90-odd levels, you'll draw bridges with your pinky to protect Sugar Kid from the traps and gory obstacles of the evil Mr Lemon.

It's got three game modes - a campaign, a survival mode, and deadly missions - and Game Center support. Looks rather yummy, we reckon.

Snail Bob
By Andrey Kovalishin - buy on iPhone and iPad midweek-oct3-snailbob

Our first Chillingo-published game this week is Snail Bob: a puzzle game in which you've got to guide a friendly gastropod through 60 stages.

Looks like you're making contraptions and pressing buttons to get him safely over obstacles.

As you collect stars on your journey, you unlock portraits and sculptures. Snail Bob also includes Game Center achievements.

Payback² HD
By Apex Designs - buy on iPhone and iPad midweek-oct3-payback2

Do you remember Payback, the GTA-style game for iPhone, from the very early days of the App Store? Well, Apex has finally made a sequel, which apparently is a radical improvement on the original "in every way".

You've got massive environments to explore, fifty different career events to complete, loads of ridiculous game modes (tank duel, anyone?) to pick from, and an all-new graphic style to admire.

Plus, there's online multiplayer support for up to four players, iPhone 5 support, Retina display graphics, and Game Center.

Stunt Star: The Hollywood Years
By Three Phase Interactive - buy on iPhone and iPad midweek-oct3-stunt

In Stunt Star: The Hollywood Years, you start each level by drawing a jump ramp with your finger. Then, a car or motorbike races towards the ramp at full tilt and - if you did your job right - the 'driver / rider' makes the jump, nails the scene, and lands without too much kerfuffle.

You'll unlock add-ons like nitrous, anti mono, ejector seats, and a vehicle chute, which will help you land in the marked area.

Plus, you'll get new vehicles like monster trucks and landspeeders. This one looks like fun.

Grow Away!
By Soco Soft - buy on iPhone and iPad

midweek-oct3-growaway

The second of the Chillingo-published games now.

Grow Away is a catapult game, where you fire healthy food at herbaceous-hunting monsters. Each food has a unique power - tomatoes explode, for example, while garlic lingers on the battlefield.

You'll fend off foes in four different environments, and you'll use special powers to help you in the heat of battles. Any vegetarians out there? You'll love this one.

Zaxxon Escape
By Sega - buy on iPhone and iPad midweek-oct3-zaxxon

If you were a kid with too much free time, and a pocket full of 50ps, back in 1982, you'll remember Sega's arcade hit Zaxxon. Now, Zaxxon is back(xon), as a 3D space shooter.

As you dart through a maze of tight corridors, you'll shoot down enemies with taps, and you'll swipe to steer left and right. There are power-ups like Auto Pilot and Light Speed Boost, which you'll use to help you clear 30 different game objectives.

It will cost 69p / 99c when it hits the App Store tomorrow. Sorry, iPod touch users: this game only works on the brand spanking new fifth-generation device.

Burrito Bison
By Ravenous Games - buy on iPhone and iPad midweek-oct3-bison

League of Evil developer Ravenous Games has taken up a side job of getting Flash game favourites onto the App Store. The latest is Burrito Bison - a launching game where you need to fire an angry bull into the gummy denizens of Candy Land.

You will have the ability to use awesome power-ups such as a rocket, glider, pogo, chili pepper rage, and other items, which you can buy from the in-game store. This one's gonna be 69p / 99c.
