Rovio has made the announcement that Casey's Contraptions fans have been waiting for: Amazing Alex is heading to iOS and Android on July 12th.

The Finnish developer broke the news via Twitter, complete with a brand-new launch trailer containing the first glimpses of in-game footage.

The trailer shows blond bedroom engineer Alex toppling a line of dominoes that starts a chain reaction involving a rolling bowling ball, a flying arrow, and even a string-munching hamster.

The intricate mechanism is geared toward one simple goal: the launching of a single baseball for Alex to whack into a mounted glove (which he misses, incidentally).

Batter up

The final 20 seconds of the trailer are devoted to showing some bona fide in-game footage and plugging the game's 100 levels; free updates; and level editor (which also supports community sharing).

If words aren't enough to satisfy your curiosity, you can check out the Amazing Alex trailer for yourself below.

Amazing Alex will available from the App Store and Google Play this Thursday (price tbc).
