Augmented reality is one area of mobile gaming in which we expect to see plenty of innovations over the coming months.

Good to see then that French developer Int13 has finally released its AR Defender for Samsung's bada phones, which I first saw back at Mobile World Congress in February.

Phone, camera, action

In terms of gameplay, the concept is fairly simple.

Just print out the pattern required for the phone's camera to do the tracking, and then protect your virtual tower from the attacking enemies for as long as possible, by collecting ammunition for your three weapons, and blowing up the incoming waves.

Sure, it's a bit of a technology demo, but if you've got a Wave phone, it's worth heading over to Samsung Apps [link] to check out the game as it's free.

And that's what plenty of people have been doing, with AR Defender already downloaded over 10,000 times.

You can also see how it works in the following video.
