Everybody loves a good villain, don't they? Apart from the fact that they are usually far more interesting characters than your average Johnny-hero, the idea of being the 'bad guy' is just so much more appealing.

You could say developer Tecmo shares the same opinion because its latest PSP title, Undead Knights, allows you to be exactly that.

Available as either a UMD or PSPgo download, you play the role of the cunningly named Dark Hero, who is hell bent on a trail of vengeance against 'the king' – although exactly why is difficult to tell. As a result, the Dark Hero's aim is is to vanquish, kill and destroy anything that comes near his undead mitts.

Described by Tecmo as an "invasion action game", Undead Knights at first looks like your average hack 'n' slash affair but there is a twist. When an enemy is slain it becomes undead and fights for your diabolical cause, enabling you to create an undead army of soldiers. Dynasty Warriors springs to mind.

At your disposal are different combo attacks, and the questionable ability to 'smack talk' your foes. As if turning them undead wasn't enough. Also thrown into the mix is an orgy of violence, a soundtrack that will have fans of Radio 2 reaching for the volume control and ad-hoc multiplayer modes, which should deliver the satisfaction of battering up to three friends or engaging in cooperative play.

From the sound of things, Undead Knights looks to offer lots of fast-paced, slicing and dicing action which should get the blood flowing. We just hope that there won't be too much repetition as found in a lot of examples of the genre, otherwise Undead Knights might need more than just resurrecting.

The release date is currently showing up as February 2010 on UK online retailers' sites, but North American pocket gamers should be able to buy their UMD copies now, while their PSPgo counterparts will get to download the digital version in October.
