Kart racers seem to suddenly be coming back into vogue on the iPhone. They were immensely popular when the App Store first launched, but realistic driving games have since taken the spotlight.

Gameloft has announced a competitor to Konami's Krazy Kart Racing (which seems to have suffered a false start) almost immediately at GamesCom, in the shape of Shrek Kart.

The first in-game footage has just been released onto YouTube, demonstrating some pretty slick-looking racing, which also promises Bluetooth and wi-fi peer-to-peer racing with everyone's favourite ogre and talking donkey in the driver's seat.

Shrek Kart is expected around September, so it shouldn't be too long before the twisted fairytale begins.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
