DeNA announced that it's bringing two venerable brands to iOS and Android later this year through an extension of its partnership with Hasbro.

The two brands in question are G.I. Joe and Dungeons & Dragons which Hasbro picked up back in 1999 when it acquired Wizards of the Coast.

The two free-to-play games, G.I. Joe: Battleground and Arena of War are expected later this year for Android, iPhone, and iPad.

Guns, swords, and steel

In G.I. Joe: Battleground players will assemble and lead teams of legendary G.I. Joe heroes and COBRA villains in battle against one another.

We haven't seen much of what Battleground will look like yet, but it's safe to assume that red and blue lasers will soon be flying.

For fans of Dungeons & Dragons, Arena of War is described as "a battle roleplaying game" set in the popular Forgotten Realms campaign world.

Combining familiar RPG elements like questing and leveling up with squad-based tactics, players will lead small teams of fantasy characters on story missions and special in-game events.

Both games are being developed and published by DeNA and will make use of the Mobage social game platform, so you know that multiplayer is a go.

Yo, Joe!
