1-bit Survivor, a brand new solo dev-made roguelike survival game, launches into early access on Android
A brand new entry into the survival roguelike genre, 1-bit Survivor seeks to take you back to the days of retro gaming with a top-down turn-based post-apocalyptic survival experience that will test your skills and wits. Utilising a lovely art style that will remind any player of the classics of the days of yore, 1-bit Survivor is an indie project created by a singular developer and looks to be a lovely little pocket roguelike for fans of the setting.
1-bit Survivor describes itself on its Itch.io page as “easy to play but difficult to master” in nature, which makes a lot of sense looking at the trailer. The gameplay is seemingly simple: you control a singular character as they navigate various stages using turn-based top-down gameplay.
As you collect loot, you’ll be able to utilise a variety of weapons, both melee and ranged alike. Whether that be a survival knife you use at close range or a shotgun to take out large crowds in one shot, there are options here. And you’ll need every weapon you can get your hands on to do battle against a variety of undead creatures that range from your typical zombie to spiders and much more.
On top of this, you’ll have to navigate between various environments to find specific loot, of which there are currently four. The City, Tundra, Desert, and Forest all have a clear visually distinctive style, and will each have different tactics you’ll need to utilise to navigate them well.
Add in the randomised items you can collect that will decide how your character plays as well as unlockable characters that all have different stats and starting weapons, and there’s a decent bit of content here for an indie game of this size.
