Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is coming to North American Vitas this summer

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment comes out in Japan on April 24, but Bandai Namco has already announced its plans to bring it over to North America as a download-only Vita title this summer.

Based on the entirely-meta Sword Art Online universe of visual novels, manga, and anime, Hollow Fragment takes place in a massive fantasy MMO known as Sword Art Online.

In the game's world, players who log in are trapped forever until they reach the 100th floor of the game's central dungeon and defeat its final boss.

Thankfully, the Vita version will let you save and log out (...we hope) but the idea's the same: you need to fight your way out of the beautiful MMO world to earn your freedom.

Hollow Fragment combines dungeon-crawling action RPG gameplay with dating sim elements that can end in fully-clothed "pillow talk" sessions if your date goes well.

Players can explore the six areas of Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment themselves, or they can team up with up to three other players - and AI-controlled partners - to hunt monsters and raid dungeons together.

If this MMO-within-an-MMO sounds like something you'd like to devote some hours into, well - you won't have to wait long as summer isn't far off.

Assuming we don't have it beforehand, we'll see if we can secure any new details about the game - like its release date and European availability - when E3 rolls around.

Until then, check out the Japanese language trailer below.
