It's about time you did something meaningful with your iPad.

You know, like save a few dying suns from extinction. Nothing too fancy, you hear.

In Solar Flux for iPad, you get to perform such a feat. It's just gone live on the New Zealand App Store, meaning it will be shining brightly on the UK and US App Stores later tonight.

At the heart of this space-based puzzle game is some very tricky science. You control a Flux Accumulator ship, you see, and you will have to balance fuel usage by utilising the gravitational pull of planets, moons, and asteroids.

Your mission is to collect plasma and restore the equilibrium of the dying suns in each nebula.

This involves your getting up close to the hottest things in the known universe. By staying in the shadows, you will cool down your heat shields. Sometimes, however, you'll have to catch heat from solar flares to get to where you're heading.

Once you've survived Solar Flux 80 missions, you might consider burning the midnight oil to topple your friends on the in-game leaderboards.

Solar Flux will go live on the UK and US App Stores at midnight, priced £2.49 / $3.99. It's an iPad-only game, incidentally.
