If the mere mention of SpongeBob SquarePants is enough to bring a smile to your lips (and with over 17 million games of varying quality featuring his name having been sold, you wouldn't be alone) then you should prepare to engage your laughing gear – the angular yellow fellow is coming to a pocket console near you, and he's bringing friends.

Yep, THQ has just officially announced the 2006 line-up of Nickelodeon games, and it's more packed than a Krabby Patty. While the games are likely to be aimed towards Pocket Gamer's youngest readers, that's no excuse for bad design – so we'll be looking out to see if there are any LEGO: Star Wars-style crossover classics in the mix.

Naturally, our absorbent hero tops the bill. SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab will enable Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS owners to explore the peculiar world of Bikini Bottom in nine suitably bizarre levels. The game is due in autumn.

SpongeBob will also return soon after with a smorgasbord of other popular Nickelodeon characters in Nicktoons (the name's just a working title). Enabling GBA and DS players to assume the role of up to ten playable characters from Nickleodeon shows such as Danny Phantom, The Fairly Odd Parents and Jimmy Neutron, the game has the crew uniting to tackle a mysterious new enemy.

Danny Phantom will also get his own outing, with Urban Jungle seeing him negotiating a real urban jungle, and using his freeze power to defeat a new eco-ghost. Both are expected sometime in autumn.

Meanwhile, Nickelodeon's hottest new show, Avatar: The Last Airbender is to get a game, with PSP, GBA and DS owning fans being given the chance to control its kung fu heroes Aang, Katara, Sokkat and Haru. GBA owners will also be offered new games based upon the live-action teen TV show Unfabulous and brand new movie Barnyard.

The full line-up is listed below. If one particularly takes your fancy, simply click the link and then press 'Track It!' to add the games to your list, and you'll be the first to hear about any new developments.
