Pixel on Toast's stripped-down space racer Impossible Road has just rolled serenely onto the New Zealand App Store, meaning it'll be available in the UK and US from around midnight tonight.

Impossible Road is an arcade racer in which you barrel down a twisty, loopy road in a ball called the "vessel". Think WipEout-meets-Super Monkey Ball.

During the development of Impossible Road, Pixel on Toast has clearly taken inspiration from Terry Cavanagh's hypnotically difficult Super Hexagon.

So, yes, Impossible Road is tough, stark, and designed for those who just can't resist trying to best their own high score.

On top of all that, cheating is actively encouraged here. By leaping off the road at opportune moments, for example, you can skip difficult sections of track and push on farther than you ever have before.

Of course, get your jump wrong, and you'll end up falling into an abyss and having to start all over again.

Slowly clambering your way up the leaderboard is the order of the day, and Impossible Road demands your full concentration if you want to master its randomly generated highways.

If you like your abstract racers bright, difficult, and with a minimalist techno soundtrack, then keep an eye on the App Store this evening for Impossible Road's appearance. It will set you back £1.49 / $1.99, by the way.
