Fortnite to return to iOS in Australia as Epic wins yet another antitrust case against Apple
  • Fortnite is set to make a return to iOS once more, this time in Australia
  • A recent ruling judged that Apple and Google had stifled competition on their platforms
  • Now, Epic has plans to return Fortnite to iOS in Oz via the Epic Games Store

Fortnite is set to make another triumphant return to iOS as Epic Games picks up yet another win in court. This time, it's the Land Down Under that'll see the return, as a recent court ruling made against Apple and Google opens the way for Fortnite to return to Australia.

The ruling found that Apple and Google stifled competition on their respective platforms with their restrictions on app distribution and policies on in-app payments. According to the folks at Epic Games, this means that Fortnite is free to make its return in Australia.

However, it won't be doing so via the classic storefronts, on iOS at least. Instead, players will be able to dive back into the battle royale via the new Epic Games Store for mobile, itself symbolic of Epic throwing down the gauntlet to Google and Apple regarding third-party storefronts.

For fans of Fortnite, this'll be exciting news, no doubt. And it's also emblematic of Epic's newfound fondness for their own proprietary storefront. The EGS on mobile, with its free games programme, has seemingly proven to be a fair success and for good reason.

With the recent rulings made across the world, Apple and Google have been forced to relax many of their rules on third-party storefronts. And while there's been a bit of doom and gloom about the oversaturation of the market here at Pocket Gamer Towers, I'd argue that it'll only increase competition. Although with Epic wielding the cash to offer games for free? I'd say there's more than a chance of a major foothold.

Speaking of great releases, while you can check in on the EGS for free mobile releases every week, why not see what else there is? We've just given a glowing review to Cat Quest III and its mix of adorable felines and swashbuckling RPG action!
