Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for iPad out tomorrow, costs £12.99/$17.99

The iPad version of Pocket Gamer Bronze Award-winning strategy game Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions has landed on the New Zealeand App Store, meaning it will be available in the UK and US at midnight.

Originally released back in 1997 on the PlayStation and recently remastered on PSP and iPhone, the iPad version has been optimised for Apple's tablet, ditching the game’s fixed camera angles and lengthy wait times, and sporting higher resolution images.

Publisher Square Enix plans to support the game with future updates promising higher resolution character art, event scene skipping, and a battle fast-forward feature.

The only major downer is that, like the iPhone version, FFT also sports a rather hefty price tag - £12.99 / $17.99, to be exact.

Square Enix is notorious for pushing the price boundaries with its App Store releases, something the Pocket Gamer team discussed when the iPhone version of FFT was released last year.

Will this put you off picking up a copy when it goes on sale at midnight tonight? Let us know in the comments below.
