After working on the likes of the BioShock franchise, Andrew James and Ed Orman have left their posts at Irrational Games and set up new studio Uppercut Games.

Aiming to bring 'AAA quality to mobile and downloadable games', the new outfit will launch its first attack on the App Store via Epoch - a shooter built with Epic's Unreal Engine technology.

You play as a robot caught up in a mystery from the past, as you fight through the ruins of a crumbling civilisation.

As you can see from the video below, you can rapidly jump between different covers, lob grenades, blast your enemies into shreds, and unleash special abilities through the use of 'innovative and intuitive' swipe controls.

As you progress, you'll have the ability to salvage new tech from fallen foes and scrapyards, which can be used to upgrade your existing mechanical body.

Epoch on iOS is slated for a fourth quarter 2011 release.
