Disgaea DS - European release confirmed, along with new screenshots
Revisit the Netherworld in 2009
Square Enix has announced that Nippon Ichi Software's Disgaea DS will be released across Europe in spring 2009.
To date, a few details on the Japanese game had emerged, but not many and there was previously no word on a western release.
According to Square Enix, the game takes place two years after the death of King Krichevskoy, the ruler of the Netherworld. His son has slept for two full years and is unaware of his father's death, and demons have been fighting for supremacy over the land. With the help of his vassal, Etna, and her underlings, Prince Laharl starts fighting to become the next king.
If any of that sounds familiar it's because Disgaea DS is an updated portable version of the classic PS2 game Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. However, it's one with plenty of enhancements, including a new duel system for multiplayer battles complete with plenty of customisable rules and game options. You'll be able to connect to a friend's DS to swap and share items and battles are made more strategic thanks to Geo Cubes, items dealt equally to each player which have special effects, both good and bad.
There's also an exclusive new story included for Etna, and a new ending for completing the mode.
As well as all that info, Square has released new screenshots of the game too (see above). We'll have more for you on Disgaea DS over the coming months so click 'Track It!' to follow it all.
