5 games to play on iOS and Android while you're waiting for Animal Crossing Pocket Camp

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is coming to iOS and Android later on this month, but for some people that's just too long to wait.

It probably doesn't help the feeling of impatience when websites such as ours write a bunch of stuff about how the game is shaping up (you can play it now if you have an Australian App Store account).

So here is a list of mobile Animal Crossing alternatives that you can play right now. We'll start with the games that are obviously indebted to Nintendo's series before venturing off into a couple of separate but thematically similar effort.

There should be something here that can see you through the next couple of weeks while you wait for Animal Crossing Pocket Camp.

Castaway Paradise

Castaway Paradise is arguably the most directly Animal Crossing-influenced game on this list. It's also arguably the best. Funny that.

Washed up onto an idyllic island, it's up to you to make friends with a load of anthropomorphic animals. Fortunately, they're willing and able to form trade relationships with you, setting you off on the road to owning lots of virtual stuff.

Seabeard

Seabeard has a cute pirate aesthetic all of its own, but it gameplay is a familiar mix of collecting resources, completing little quests, and trading with bulbous-headed characters.

It's all very Animal Crossing, with tasks that involve shaking trees for apples, fishing, and scavenging beaches for driftwood. Though we don't remember being able to sword fight in Nintendo's family-friendly game.

Happy Street

More cute woodland creatures enslaved to consumerism. Happy Street as the requisite adorable art style and general flow of collecting more and more stuff that any Animal Crossing wannabe must have.

But it also delves into Kairosoft territory with some of its retail micromanagement and sandbox spending systems.

Hay Day

Hay Day belongs to a particular type of casual mobile game that's distinct from Animal Crossing's way of doing things. But there's some definite audience crossover potential here.

Supercell's game has you running a farm, growing and tending crops, rearing animals, and selling your produce, and trading with other players.

Harvest Moon: Seeds Of Memories

The Harvest Moon series has its own storied history that dates back earlier than Animal Crossing. But like Nintendo's game, it took its sweet time coming to mobile.

Harvest Moon: Seeds Of Memories is a premium farm management game (a rare thing in itself) with stacks of content. It's more structured than your average AC game, but elements like building up your home and forming relationships with the local townsfolk should appeal to fans.
