ustwo's acclaimed endless-flyer Whale Trail finally floated onto the Android Market yesterday, bringing its whimsical brand of high score-chasing gameplay to Google-powered smartphones.

Sony Ericsson, meanwhile, has informed us that Xperia Play owners are set to receive their own specially optimised version of the game, which is due to hit the Xperia Play launcher later this week.

But, what exactly does 'optimised' mean in this instance? Well, according to ustwo, Whale Trail will support the Xperia Play's physical buttons.

We're not entirely sure Whale Trail's simple single-finger gameplay was crying out for hard button support, but, hey - it's now there for those who want it.

More importantly, though, the game's engine has been subtly tweaked to ensure consistent silky-smooth performance on the Xperia Play.

Whale Trail was awarded a Pocket Gamer Silver Award on iPhone, and can currently be picked up from the Android Market at an introductory price of 69p / 99c [download].
