It was first unveiled at E3 last year, but Echochrome – a puzzler in development by Sony Japan – wasn't then confirmed for release in the west. Besides, all that was really divulged were the bare bones of Echochrome's concept. At the show, Sony president Phil Harrison described the game as having "possibly the least graphics and the most gameplay of any title you are going to see."

This week though, the game turned up at GDC and Sony has told us it will be released on PSP (and PS3) in the UK but that there's currently no confirmed release date.

Describing Echochrome isn't straightforward but it reminds us a little of Sega's brilliant PSP title, Crush. While the game's visuals are sparse and monochrome – with you controlling a mannequin figure – the gameplay is deviously complex and revolves around camera perspectives altering the three-dimensional gameworld.

So a gap in a path is traversed by moving the camera so that a path in the foreground covers it. It's best seen in action for yourself and you can do that over at the game's official site. It's in Japanese, so click to enter then click the top option that appears to the left of video screen to view a very charming trailer showing the concept.

We're massively looking forward to seeing more of Echochrome. It's currently scheduled for release in Japan in March and we'll fly out there and bring back a copy to get you more info on it if we have to.
