In an interesting marketing move, Sony America is running a scheme with US retailer Gamestop that allows you to get a level kickstart in anticipated warring rhythm action game Patapon, as well as picking up the otherwise unobtainable Spear of Protection.

The process is as simple as playing through the instore demo, saving your progress and pre-ordering the game, which will come with a save game - we're presuming on a bundled Memory Stick Duo bundled, although the SCEA blog doesn't make this clear - that enables you to start Patapon where the demo left off, with the spear in your inventory.

It seems like a pretty cool idea to drum up support for the innovative game that we're certainly looking forward to playing. And even better for our American friends is the $20 pricepoint.

We don't expect the demo scheme to happen in Europe - it's too complicated to set up we reckon - and the game will cost £25 in the UK, but at least there's a roughly simultaneous release date of February 22nd (Europe) and 26th (US).
