Castlevania: Symphony of the Night coming to PSP

And it's bringing along an old friend

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night coming to PSP

We don't wish to whip you up into a frenzy, but it's difficult to ignore the fact that US game site 1UP has revealed news of a forthcoming UMD containing not one but two Castlevania games for PSP. And not just any two Castlevania games: we're talking Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night, one of the greatest 2D platformer video games of all time.

That's not to say Rondo of Blood isn't a fine example – it's actually renowned for being uncommonly accomplished, but it's just not as well known as Symphony because it never really made it outside of Japan.

Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, as the PSP title will be titled, will include two versions of Rondo, one being the original 2D game and the other a three-dimensional remake shown here, which looks similar to the recent – brilliant – reworking of Ghosts 'n Goblins.

But purists will probably appreciate the fact Symphony has been left untouched and is present on the disc as a direct port of the original version.

In the meantime, those eager to face up to the Prince of Darkness could check out our DS review of the latest, rather splendid Castlevania game.
