9 Elefants is a Professor Layton-style mystery that mixes together crime solving and logical conundrums in a stylised Parisian setting.

You play the daughter of a kidnapped professor who, aided by a talking cat, has to try to get to the bottom of a mystery involving time cameras, missing cogs, and a man wearing what looks like an elephant mask.

There's a good deal of whimsy here, and the art style gives the whole game the look of a European animated film.

The puzzles start off reasonably easy, some of them just simple questions, before branching out into more complex head scratchers. There's some hidden-object finding to do along the way as well.

If you like your puzzlers with a narrative bubbling around them, a laid back approach to getting things like a kidnapping sorted out, and a talking feline companion, then there's a lot to enjoy in 9 Elefants.

And there's enough here to keep fans of the genre entertained for a good long while as well, as long as they don't mind some twee music and brightly coloured backdrops.

9 Elefants is out right now on the App Store where it'll set you back £1.99 / $2.99 [buy] and the Google Play Store where it'll set you back £2.19 / $2.99 [buy].
