Urban Airship sees revenue growth of 600% yoy as it prepares for iOS 5's notification overhaul

Apple might have overhauled its notification system with iOS 5, but companies like Urban Airship have been making a name for themselves in the push business for some time now.

Indeed, the firm has just released a bevy of stats detailing its performance to date, revealing its client list currently tops 20,000 developers, resulting in a 600 percent jump in revenues year-on-year.

5 alive

As a result, Urban Airship has been able to build upon the 5 billion push notification milestone it reached in August 2011, adding another billion on top of that according to its latest numbers.

It also claims to have accounted for more than 240 million individual app installs.

Brands utilising Urban Airship are reportedly seeing overall app engagement figures increase by up to 30 percent, with mobile sales jumping by up to 40 percent.

The next step, the company claims, will be integrating iOS 5's new features – including its new notification system – into Urban Airship's set-up.

"Urban Airship is working with brand marketers to devise strategies that leverage Notification Center, as well as Newsstand, the new way to purchase and organise magazine and newspaper subscriptions and content," the firm said in a statement.

There are no dates set in stone as yet, but we can expect to see developments "later this year."
