Tetris still top dog in N-Gage sales chart
It's been a while now...
Nokia's latest weekly N-Gage games sales chart sees EA Mobile's Tetris occuping top spot for the eighth week in a row.
The rest of the top five consists of Glu's World Series of Poker Pro Challenge, Capcom's Resident Evil Degeneration, Gameloft's Asphalt 4: Elite Racing, and Nokia's Hooked On: Creatures of the Deep.
Bust Tetris's dominance of the chart in 2009 does throw up a number of issues for Nokia, which we've highlighted before.
On the one hand, it shows that casual gamers are finding and using the N-Gage application on their handsets. In fact, you can see exactly when this started to happen by analysing the N-Gage charts on Nokia's official blog.
In the eight weeks up to 28th September last year, Tetris didn't top the chart once. In the 22 weeks since then, it's topped the chart 15 times - and the other seven weeks it was second.
There's a pretty clear match between this change at the end of September, and the time N-Gage got preloaded on handsets like the N96, N79 and N85.
The concern for Nokia is, however, if many N-Gage users just want to play Tetris and poker, what does that mean for its attempts to get developers and publishers to invest in the advanced, richer games it intended to be N-Gage's forte?
