Dundee-based Tag Games has appointed former Amazon UK head of games and software Graham Chambers as global head of sales in a move the studio believes illustrates mobile's continued ascent.

Chambers, who has also held managerial positions at both Ubisoft and Nintendo, said now is exactly the right time to join Tag Games, as the developer heads into an "exciting" new era.

"The studio is working on some great projects and has many more in the pipeline that are yet to be announced," said Chambers.

"In conjunction with the great team already in place at Tag, I will aim to use my experience and relationships to help grow Tag into the largest independent mobile games development studio in Europe."

Changing times

For Tag's part, the developer is pitching the appointment both as a sign of its own growth, and - in a wider context – the "shifting outlook of traditional console development and sales professionals" towards the mobile market.

"His unique blend of experience, skills, network and expertise will be of huge benefit across all aspects of the business, especially in attracting the very best global clients for our industry-leading bespoke game development offerings," said studio MD Paul Farley.

"Attracting him from Amazon is a fantastic coup for Tag and another sign that we are experiencing a power shift in video game industry from the traditional console retail space to mobile and download."

The appointment follows the launch of a drive for fresh talent – one that will see the studio looking beyond Scotland - for new employees – and the unveiling of its social mobile publishing brand Tagplay.
