Nintendo is celebrating Super Mario Odyssey's first anniversary in a big way

Nintendo kicked off celebrations for Super Mario Odyssey’s first anniversary this week, offering Nintendo fans some neat little surprises to commemorate the first birthday of Mario’s inaugural Nintendo Switch adventure.

Fans were first treated to some special artwork honoring the event alongside a video featuring the cast of Super Mario Odyssey dancing to a new version of Jump Up, Superstar!

Nintendo is also challenging fans to track down pixel Luigi and pixel Captain Toads in the Metro Kingdom’s festival in-game. There are 39 to uncover, and there could be a special prize for those who prove successful. You have until November 7 to find them all.

To cap it all off, Nintendo UK is hosting a special anniversary capture contest. The official Super Mario UK Twitter account will choose three winners within Europe. You can find out how to enter your prized in-game screen captures on Nintendo’s website. You have until October 30 to enter, and winners are announced on November 12.

Super Mario Odyssey debuted just last year, easily establishing itself as a must-have for any Nintendo Switch library. It’s a brilliant re-imagining of Super Mario for a new generation, and it is a delight to explore. We liked it so much we gave it a rare Platinum Award.
