Street Fighter IV: Volt welcoming two new challengers on iPhone, potentially more on the way

Street Fighter IV: Volt Battle Protocol, Capcom's updated edition of the popular iPhone beat-'em-up, is getting at least two new characters, with several more on the way, if the reports of some intrepid code explorers are to be believed.

There's no official confirmation from the Japanese gaming goliath yet, but Andriasang reports that both Sakura and Makoto are poised to make an electric (geddit?) entrance in its Street Fighter IV spin-off.

Tech-savvy members of the Touch Arcade forum, meanwhile, have done a bit of digging around Street Fighter IV: Volt Battle Protocol's game files, unearthing spaces on the character list reserved for the abovementioned pair, Evil Ryu, and Fei Long.

Akuma unlocked

In addition, those resourceful TA sleuths have found several ways to unlock another character, Akuma. Your options include beating him with every character in the arcade mode, or playing 100 matches online.

And if you own the original Street Fighter IV, you've got another option.

Bring up Volt Battle Protocol's Arcade mode character select screen, then tap the following characters, pausing for a second on each one: Ryu, Abel, Guile, Cammy, Ryu, Ryu.

No word yet on precisely when these additional characters will step into the Street Fighter IV: Volt Battle Protocol arena, but the game itself is out now for iPhone, priced at £4.99 / $6.99.
