What's this? An endless runner that feels simultaneously fresh and warmly familiar? And one that makes you want to hit restart rather than your own face with the frustrated boredom of it all?
You'd better believe it. Samurai Blitz has a nostalgic retro pixel art style to it, but it's the feel of the core beasty-slaying action that really marks it out.
Tap the left side of the screen to make your samurai jump, right to make him slash out with his sword. When you connect with a baddie, you extend your jump by the slightest amount.
Combined with a double jump ability, you'll find yourself capable of chaining elaborate slice-hops to rack up the combos. It's deliciously moreish.
There are a number of scenery changes, boss characters, and unlockable scrolls and swords, but in truth you're just doing the same thing repeatedly - and in this case, that's just fine.
