Epic lawsuit reveals a mobile version of Rocket League with cross-platform support, will release later this year

The Epic v. Apple lawsuit trial has revealed the existence of an upcoming mobile port of Rocket League, which is expected to launch later this year.

This is not to be confused with Rocket League Sideswipe, which is the upcoming 2D version of the game developed exclusively for mobile, but rather is the full version of Rocket League as it appears on PC and consoles.

The existence of the game was revealed within the court documents of the lawsuit trial, which is available publicly, and also picked up by ResetEra in a post made on the forum on Monday evening.

This new version of Rocket League is said to be a “next-generation client” with full game experience across all platforms, including mobile. Whether this means both iOS and Android or just one of them, for the time being, remains to be seen.

It’ll have cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms too. This means you can shut off your PC after a four-hour session and pick it up again while on the go on your Switch or mobile phone, with all your unlocks and statistics staying true between each platform.

This new version of Rocket League will also have a beta available on mobile before it hits other platforms, and this will be released sometime before launch.

Meanwhile, Rocket League Sideswipe is also set for release later this year. This is a version of the game fully built for mobile, with both controller and touch control support where you play in 1v1 and 2v2 matches in a 2D-style arena similar to the main version of the game.

Rocket League and Rocket League Sideswipe are expected to launch on mobile sometime this year. We’ll be sure to update you when more info about a launch timeframe is known.
