Founder and CEO of RealNetworks Rob Glaser steps down
Could be looking toward public office position
Rob Glaser has been at the helm of RealNetworks for over 16 years, as the founder, CEO and largest shareholder in the company. It's been announced that he'll now be stepping down, with strong rumours that the decision wasn't entirely his.
According to AllThingsDigital it was the RealNetworks board that told Glaser it was time for someone else to run the (his) show, though the official party line insists it was Glaser's decision.
He will remain as chairman of the board, but will be stepping down from his day to day duties to concentrate on family and philanthropic projects. Glaser is a well known supporter of democratic policy, and seems likely to be heading toward a position in public office.
His departure comes just two days after COO John Giamatteo also announced he will be leaving the company, though again RealNetworks insists their decisions are unrelated. Some members of the media are unconvinced, however, suspecting big changes are afoot at RealNetworks.
