Sea monsters and nitro pufferfish will be brought to life soon on iOS in Pirate Legends TD

Yaargh, me mateys! Hope you're ready to set sail on a pirate-themed adventure and blow those salty seadogs to smithereens!

Washing up on our shore this afternoon is the trailer for an upcoming and rather eye-catching tower defence title called Pirate Legends TD.

The idea in this one is to protect your pirate ship from the nautical menaces that threaten it using up to 20 different towers that you can place along their route.

Since the game's style is rather wacky and there's a beautifully presented cartoon sheen to proceedings here, these towers include the likes of "Nitro filled Puffer Fish towers", "Harpoon Shark Hunters", and a range of sea monsters.

Furthermore, you can invoke other powers, such as tornadoes, a bombardment from the ship's cannons, and some "Rocks from the Deep".

Pirate Legends TD

You'll travel across many detailed environments in this 'alternative' Caribbean in SuperHippo's Pirate Legends TD, including rainforests, an Urban Pirate Town, Cannibal Swamps, and Undead Temples.

In some of these areas, you'll be able to call upon the help of other pirates and island natives.

Each of the maps contains secondary objectives that you'll have to go out of your way to complete, though you don't have to complete them to finish the level.

Interestingly, the maker of Pirate Legends TD uses a "water shock-wave system" to push enemies about. You can take advantage of this to push enemies back.

Last but not least, there are four hero "Flying Aces" ready for launch. These are planes that "strafe player defined target areas and upgrade their weaponry during combat". SuperHippo will add more over time.

Pirate Legends TD is expected to surface on the App Store in the next few weeks with a price tag of £2.49 / $3.99.
