Having announced its intent to base itself in Dundee back in February, social and mobile developer Outplay Entertainment has confirmed it is to set up its global headquarters in the city.

According to STV, Outplay will operate out of the Vision Building in Dundee's Greenmarket, with the Scottish city having beat out other locations in mainland Europe and the US.

Location, location, location

"Establishing Outplay's global headquarters was a crucial first step for the company," said co-founder and CEO Douglas Hare.

"We considered various locations in North America and Europe but Dundee stood out for a number of reasons, not least the concentration of talent, comprehensive support and the level of expertise across every organisation we encountered.

"Dundee has a long and proud history of creating world-class games and we're thrilled to be locating Outplay in the city at a crucial period in the ongoing evolution of the global gaming market."

Home is where the staff is

As a result of the move, it's expected 150 jobs will be brought to the area in the coming years – a much needed boost, following the closure of the Dundee based Cohort Studios in May and the demise of Realtime Worlds in 2010.

The studio supports mobile platforms such as iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7, as well as social networking platforms such as Facebook.

"For a social and mobile games publisher, Dundee has a great deal to offer Outplay," added co-founder and president Richard Hare.

"It is home to several independent developers active on these platforms and related technologies, as well as academic institutions including Abertay University, which is recognised globally as a pioneer within the interactive sector. We're delighted to be here."
