It's not often that an endless runner can make you smile from the get-go. But that's exactly what oh my giraffe does.

It's a simple game about extending a giraffe's neck to eat fruits while avoiding the attentions of the big cats that prowl around the pixel art savannah.

And it's about as delightful as it sounds. It may be a little shallow for some, but there's a fun, compulsive high score-chaser here that's just about ridiculous enough to recommend.

Stiff upper neck

You extend the giraffe's neck by sliding a finger around the screen. And that's all the controls you get. While waggling your finger around there are two things you need to concentrate on.

First you need to eat fruit by barging the giraffe's face into them. This extends your multiplier and adds to your score. Second you need to munch through vines so the fruit bounces down onto the floor behind you.

The only protection you have against the lions that are nipping at your extra long heels are these tumbling berries. If a lion catches up with you unmolested it's game over.

You're endlessly juggling stuffing your face and making sure there's enough fruit falling behind you so that any alpha predators get a smack to the face before they've had a chance to take a bite out of your rump.

Munch bunch

That's all there is to it. And after a while it does get a little repetitive, but there's a simple, tactile joy to enlarging the giraffe's wobbling neck, and a compulsion to run a little farther to try and extend your score.

Oh my giraffe is a twee and endearing game, and while some might get bored with it after a couple of goes, if it gets its hooves into you then you're likely to be dipping into it time and time again.
