MotorStorm RC: Pro-Am Festival DLC

| MotorStorm RC

There was a lovely surprise waiting for PS Vita owners at the device's launch in the form of the Micro Machines-like MotorStorm RC.

The surprise, of course, was that it cost mere pennies to download yet was a full title with many hours of gameplay and even a platinum trophy - usually only provided with full-price retail releases.

The Pro-Am Festival DLC adds 16 extra tracks to master, eight new vehicles, and the Super Car race. Whether you decide to fork out the extra cash all depends on how you felt about the original game.

Pros

A quick recap on what Motorstorm RC is all about - essentially, you're bombing around a series of challenging race tracks from a top-down perspective akin to the classic Micro Machines games.

However, MotorStorm RC focuses more on drifting around corners and maintaining full control of your vehicle than its inspiration. It's a real professionals' sport, and if you don't have the necessary patience and skill you'll never manage to reach the final track.

The Pro-Am DLC throws a full extra season of tracks into the works, spread over four separate environments. For the most part it's more of the same - fans of the main game will fall easily into the groove.

Pro-Am, as the name suggests, features a number of very challenging tracks that will really test the best MotorStorm RC players. Tight bends and speedy Super Cars mean that hitting the 'restart race' button will be a common occurrence.

It also means that picking up those gold medals is incredibly rewarding - possibly even more so than in the main game. MotorStorm RC veterans will want to battle through these challenges.

Cons

While the levels are definitely more challenging, they're also a lot more moody and dull in places.

The colour palette has shifted to the dark side, with plenty of greys and browns. It's not pretty.

The other slight downer is that the DLC costs more than half the price of the original game. Sure, the original was cheap, but it's worth knowing that you're getting less for your money than before.

But it all comes down to whether you really enjoyed MotorStorm RC. If you did, you'll want to grab this DLC and continue your obsession. It's challenging, and will easily get your heart racing.

If, however, you were a bit noncommital about it all, then the Pro-Am DLC probably isn't for you. Overall, it's simply more of the same, and we're sure numerous players will already be full up on the experience.
