If you're looking for a puzzling platformer that's going to pose a stern challenge, then Mimpi Dreams isn't going to be for you. It's fluffy, light, and you'll breeze through it in about three hours.

If you're looking for a puzzling platformer that's full of heart and charm though, then you're going to fall in love with this tale of a tiny dog who's just trying to have a snooze.

It's full of neat ideas, gorgeous graphics, and characters that you'll fall in love with even though they don't say a single word.

It won't make you pull your hair out or punch the sky when you get past a tricky section, but it will make you go 'awwwww' from time to time, which is pretty nice as well.

I'm guessing this is the sequel to Mimpi then?

It is indeed. And it's fixed a lot of the problems that game had. The controls here are much sharper, and the game is much more relaxed and generous. It doesn't tell you what to do all the time, but figuring things out is pretty simple.

Each level is based on a dream the titular dog is having. There are castles and dungeons, pirate ships, and all manner of other areas to explore.

Well, I say explore, but the game is staunchly linear. It's pretty much impossible to get lost, even when things branch out a little more in the later levels. It's A to B, solving puzzles as you romp along.

The puzzles are the heart of the game, really. They involve manipulating the environment around you to progress.

You might need to move some clouds to make it rain, push over a tree to create a bridge, or bark at a chicken so it gets shot by the laser eyes of a statue.

Everything is telegraphed, and there's a hint system to make sure if you do get stuck you're not stuck for long. You probably won't get stuck though, as it's usually pretty obvious what you have to do.

The game looks lovely though. It's like a cartoon you can poke around. The different levels all have their own unique style, and you'll pick up different costumes as you work your way through them that make Mimpi look even more adorable.

Sounds like this is one for younger players

Well, yes and no. Younger players will love it, but there's a lot here for more seasoned gamers to sink their teeth into. There are bones to collect on each level, and while it's not exactly tough to nab them, it adds an extra layer of interest.

Then there's the charm. I really can't overstate just how lovely Mimpi Dreams is. It builds a series of worlds that you just want to roll about in, soaking in the atmosphere in every nook and cranny.

And sometimes that's far more important than what you're doing. This is a solid and entertaining game lifted up by a lovely universe that it's a real pleasure to spend time in.

Plus you get to play a dog that sometimes dresses up like a pirate. I mean, honestly, what's not to like about that?

Mimpi Dreams - It's about a dog that can dress up as a pirate, what's not to like?

Mimpi Dreams isn't the most challenging game in the world, but you're going to have a lovely time playing it all the same
