Metal Gear Solid Touch confirmed for iPhone

Bad news for PSP and DS?

Metal Gear Solid Touch confirmed for iPhone

After a flurry of online rumours, Konami appears to have confirmed that it's making a Metal Gear Solid game for iPhone.

A leaked press release also mentions iPhone versions of Dance Dance Revolution and Silent Hill.

Assuming all this is true, it's more backing for Apple's current PR drive to position the iPhone and iPod touch as genuine rivals to PSP and DS in the handheld gaming space.

In fact, Konami's announcement of Metal Gear Solid Touch could even be seen as something of a slap in the face for PSP and DS, or at the very least recognition on Konami's part that Apple's challenge to Sony and Nintendo is viable.

(Although if we're going down that route, we should point out that Metal Gear Solid has already been released for mobile and N-Gage, so it's a logical next step to take it to iPhone).

All eyes will now be on the iPhone version to see how it shapes up - and whether Ideaworks3D, which developed the other mobile versions, is still involved. Its AirPlay platform supports iPhone, so we wouldn't be surprised if it is.
