Description

Pilfer from poets, bargain with bishops and serenade the local simpleton on your hapless quest for absolution. Four Last Things is a point-and-click adventure game made from Renaissance-era paintings.

It's kind of like if Monkey Island had been made in 16th century Flanders, by a time-travelling Monty Python fanboy...

***In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. God saw all that he had made, and it was good. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

'Ooops,' said god, seeing he had created a fool. But before he was able to remedy his error, man spoke;

'No backsies!' he chirped, and scuttled off into the forest.***

Fabulously, Refreshingly different

Art, culture, religion, humor ... (Trump would hate this game.) This game is going to feel like dejavu for those who took any art history. The artwork/setting is like a review of the first semester - a good, fun review. What a novel idea, melding classic art into a world and characters to create a game. It works!
Slightly Challenging puzzles, not terribly difficult but requiring some thought. This is, so far, the most amusing and snarky game I've played; I even LOLed a few times as it very British - I think it reminded me of Monte Python.
Visually fabulous, clever, sophisticated, entertaining and 100% enjoyable. I enjoyed the experience most of all because, by the time it was done, I had been reminded that, in spite of current events, through time humans have created some wondrous things. And it was fun.

THOU MUST PLAYETH

Truly can say I’ve never had quite so much fun with a game since, day, “Monkey Island.”The artwork is terrific (well, naturally, since it’s all taken from masterpieces) and the plot and dialogue are very Monty Pythonish. Puzzles aren’t too hard, although I needed to sneak a peek at a walkthrough once or twice. Also, if you’re playing on an iPhone, a few of the point-and-click sweet spots can be small so you have to proceed carefully. Not a major problem. Downsides: Short. Annoyingly repetitive music. No multiple endings. Upside: so much fun! So original! More, please. There’s plenty of art in the world that needs game-ifying!

Uniquely brilliant, but still left me wanting

The concept and design are truly one-of-a-kind. There's certainly a lot of humor to be enjoyed but some character interactions are a bit rote and superfluous...some possibilities left on the table. The musical choices are appropriate but they do get under your skin after awhile.

I'll echo the call for adding Game Center achievements.

I look forward to checking out this dev's other titles.
