G.I. Joe: War on Cobra is available right now, and it's a game of two halves that work together perfectly. In one half, you are raiding the bases of your enemies, preparing a massive conquest to take down all of their tools and supplies for the greater good. On the other hand, you're building up your base, to protect from marauding enemies tearing your buildings apart.

The fact is that these two halves work together just as well as the Cobra and Joe factions in this game. You can build up, and tear apart, both sides of good and evil very easily, meaning you can keep the rewards rolling in, even when you've got timers to count down on either side. Very nice indeed.

This mechanic, along with a bunch of others, can be used to make it far easier to open up cargo, build up your base, improve your units, and more. Or at least, far more palatable.

In this guide, we're going to run through what you need to know to get more units, build up your base, and open up as much cargo as possible so you're prepared to down everyone online. Just read on for these essential tips for G.I. Joe: War on Cobra.

1
Cheap, fast upgrades

You should notice whole browsing the store that there will be several things you can buy with very little oil to place in your base. Things such as tank traps, or other cheap upgrades.

In the early game, there is no reason not to place as many upgrades and buildings down as possible. These will only reward you with more oil and gold in the long term, or make it harder for attackers to get close.

In the long run it might be more worthwhile to place down land mines, just dozens upon dozens of them, and you'll find your base incredibly well protected, but of course, buildings that earn oil for upgrades and new buildings are incredibly important.

2
Loading up cargo, splashing gems?

You can store up to four cargo boxes at a time, and you can unlock one at a time, but you might find it worthwhile to actually use gems to open boxes, occasionally.

If you're filling up and you really want either new units or buildings, then it's probably a good idea to open some cargo, especially early in the game, and then leaving bigger cargo to unlock overnight.

You will open separate cargo on the Cobra side than you will on the side of the Joes, which means at all times you can have two pieces of cargo opening, not counting Battle Cargo and free cargo which you will be offered periodically.

3
The side switch

All of the above information basically means that you should regularly side switch if you find yourself becoming overwhelmed on one side.

If you really want to build up your base, but your builders are slow and you don't want to spend gems to speed it up, just jump over to either the Cobra or Joe side, and start working on whatever you wish, either the base or battling, while time ticks by.

Basically the game allows you to continue playing even when you've hit that wait wall, which is very nice, although certainly not perfect.

4
Gold and oil

Gold and oil are basically the most important materials in the game, and you'll need them if you want a powerful team and fast.

Luckily, gold and oil can both be produced by your base, so you don't even necessarily ever have to go into battle to actually earn both.

Oil is often used for buildings and upgrades on your base, while gold is used to upgrade units for battle, both incredible important.

Although it is very odd that, in this aspect, the game is being very true to American foreign policy.
