[Updated: We've since been informed that Aeria's mobile games Immortalis and Monster Paradise are also part of the deal, and will now be operated by ProSieben.]

Demonstrating the way the industry is moving, F2P publisher Aeria has pulled out of the PC gaming market.

The US outfit has sold its worldwide PC games business, including its Aeria Games Europe subsidiary to German media giant ProSiebenSat.1.

Aeria will use the undisclosed amount of cash from the deal to focus on its mobile game development and publishing business.

It's been active in hardcore mobile gaming for over a year; something we discussed with European CEO Pascal Zuta in 2013.

Going forward, Aeria will also rebrand its future mobile-only activities under a new name.

Moving on up

Aeria built its PC business on bringing Asian F2P games to western markets, building a business with more than 50 million players.

"The company is extremely proud of our team's accomplishment and the transaction will give the business the requisite scale for continued growth," said CEO Lan Hoang.

"With the additional capital, we will invest exclusively in the mobile business with additional game launches.

"We have already proven ourselves as a strong publisher and developer of mobile games, and we look forward to exponential growth in the mobile business for years to come."
