Avoiding your way to victory

Brake Away is a bite-sized car game where the goal is to not crash any cars. The game gives a similar vibe to a game like Burnout: Crash! except in that game, your goal was to make as many cars crash as possible in classic Burnout fashion. Here are a few Brake Away tips that can help kick you off.

Dealing with a variety of tracks, you start off with one car and as you continue, more cars will start to form. This, obviously will make things more challenging. The longer you avoid crashes, the higher your score will be. There are no lives here so one crash and that's game over.

The controls in the game are super simple as it's really only one control you can perform. That said, it can be a very tricky game to master too. It can be easy to get confused by the cars and their directions as well as the layout of the roads.

Tip #1 - Fail, Learn, Improve

It's possible that you may not get the routes of each car on your first try. You won't have much time to determine where the car will be driving before you can try and slow it or another car down. This means that, unless you slay the game early on, that you'll fail quite a bit.

Like in Dark Souls, one of my favourite series of all time, you learn from your mistakes and ask yourself why you died. You then learn from it and take a different approach. That's an odd analogy in a way because the games are super different, but the trial and error concept is the same. It will soon lead you to trial and triumph.

The good thing is that the routes are the same every time you reset so all you need to do is remember it a little bit and you'll be golden. Take note and you'll start getting into a rhythm.

Tip #2 - Familiarize Yourself with Double Stopping

As we eluded to earlier, there is only one touch needed to control in Brake Away. When you touch a car, it slows down dramatically, allowing any nearby cars to go by and avoid crashing. One thing you are able to do is hold down two cars at the same time.

This can seem tricky at first, considering how closely you need to watch multiple vehicles. But there may be times where you slow down two cars to avoid a couple of them sandwiching against one or two different collisions.

Practice this as much as you can. You may not have to do this every time, but it can be critical. If you're on the next level, feel free to go back to the first one and use that as a practice spot.

Tip #3 - Treat Yourself

Just a fun little reminder that you can unlock new cars as you play Brake Away. You'll earn some coins that will allow you to pay for the new rides. Some of the designs are near. There are even a couple that looks like race cars if you're a sports fan.

It may not seem like much, but it's good to know that you can get rewarded for your efforts in some way. And the new cars will make the game more aesthetically pleasing. We all like new and shiny, so having the new looks gives you a new game kind of feel.

So, once you start to collect some coins, go ahead and start shopping. Find a ride or two that suits your style and head back out there. It can be pretty easy to forget about the garage where you can purchase these vehicles, so that's another good reason to send a little reminder.
