WIld Rift Patch 2.3 notes

LoL: Wild Rift Patch 2.3 leaks - major rune changes

We've been eagerly waiting for Wild Rift to release some of its 'core' runes, and in the game's latest update, Patch 2.3, we're finally getting something big. And by big, I mean not only rune updates, but also champion updates. We're going to dive into some more details below, so if you're eager to learn everything that'll come to the popular mobile MOBA, you're in the best place possible.

League of Legends: Wild Rift is arguably one of the biggest releases in the last quarter of 2020 - or 2021 (depending on your region) has offered us thus far, if not THE biggest. Thousands of people are playing the game, and with such big expectations, the game has delivered on absolutely everything. We've got in-game events, constant updates to make the game deliver a much closer experience to League of Legends, and even a Wild Rift exclusive skin line! I mean, for a game that is only a few months old, that's massive.

But the real question is: what are we going to find in the latest Wild Rift patch 2.3? Let's take a look!

Rune changes coming to patch 2.3

Some of the old runes have been revamped

If you're familiar with the rune system in League of Legends, chances are you remember Kleptomancy (in its good ol' days). That rune has been completely removed in LoL but has been one of the core runes in Wild Rift for the longest time. Well, not anymore. Starting with Patch 2.3, some of the old runes (Klepto included) have been completely removed, and something else has taken their place entirely.

Phase Rush will replace Kleptomancy

Kleptomancy Effect: After using an ability, your next ability hit or attack on an enemy champion will grant you a random item effect.

Phase Rush Effect: Hitting a champion with 3 separate attacks or abilities within 3 seconds grants a large burst of Movement Speed and resistance to slows.

How will Phase Rush work?

Phase Rush is a well-known and used rune from League, and players using it will receive a burst of movement speed and slow resistance. This is a rune that'll help slow mages keep up with the mobile assassins or other highly mobile champions. It is also great when trading in lane because every third hit against enemy champions will activate it.

Bone Plating will replace Backbone

Backbone Effect: Gain bonus Armor or Magic Resist, based on whatever stat you have less of.

Bone Plating Effect: After taking damage from a champion, the next 3 champion abilities or attacks against you deal reduced damage.

Backbone used to be a fairly... weak rune when it wouldn't give you the stats you wanted. Well, lucky for that, Bone Plating is going to take its place, and that is great news. Bone Plating is great for trading in lane, but can also save you during Baron or Drake fights! It's a great rune overall, which will be a must-pick for many players out there, much like in League on PC.

Second Wind will replace Regeneration

Regeneration Effect: Periodically regen your missing health or mana based on whichever percentage is lower.

Second Wind Effect: Gain increased health regeneration. Also, after taking damage from an enemy champion regenerate a portion of your missing health. This effect is doubled for melee champions.

Second Wind will now help players lane more safely, and will play a similar role to Regeneration, except it's going to have a more defined identity, and not fall under the "Manaflow Band or Regeneration" dilemma.

Adaptive Carapace will replace Spirit Walker

Spirit Walker Effect: Gain bonus max health and slow resistance.

Adaptive Carapace Effect: Gain bonus max health, and increased defense when below 50% health.

Adaptive Carapace basically uses the same icon that Backbone used to have, but with a slightly revamped effect. It will now increase the player's max HP and defense, whereas the old Backbone used to only increase the player's defense.

Font of Life has been reworked

Old effect: Impairing the movement of an enemy champion marks them. Allies who attack marked champions heal over time.

New effect: Hitting an enemy champion with an attack or ability marks them. When you or allies damage marked champions, heal those allies and yourself. Each ally can trigger this healing once per mark.

The new effect that Font of Life will grant is going to be massive, especially for support players. This rune will not only be a great pick now but also have a much, much bigger impact on the game. If a player will hit an enemy champion while they are running this rune, they'll instantly apply the mark, allowing for any ally champion to proc it and receive the heal.

Conditioning will receive a buff

Old effect: Gain 8 bonus Armor and Magic Resist after 5 minutes of game time.

New effect: Gain 8 bonus Armor and Magic Resist after 5 minutes of game time. Every 2 minutes after this gain 2 bonus Armor and Magic Resist.

Conditioning has been a pretty good pick for many tank champions, but it would tend to fall off in the late game. After the update in the Wild Rift Patch 2.3, this rune will only have a bigger and bigger impact, the more the game would go on. So instead of seeing tanks get heavily outscaled and burst down in the late game, the new Conditioning will make them more "beefy".

Of course, these changes will bring some position shifts to our Wild Rift tier list, so make sure you check what's meta at the moment!

Mastermind will deal less damage to turrets

Old effect: Deal 10% bonus true damage to epic monsters and turrets. Earn an extra 100 gold and 500 XP upon taking or assisting in taking these objectives.

New effect: Deal 10% bonus true damage to epic monsters and 10% bonus adaptive damage to turrets. Earn an extra 120 gold upon taking or assisting in taking these objectives.

We already know that Inspiration runes are meant to provide utility and various other buffs, being more objective-focused than others. Well, Mastermind used to be THE keystone when it came to Inspiration, allowing players to massively benefit from that extra EXP. In patch 2.3, Mastermind will now deal adaptive damage to turrets instead of true damage, and while the Gold output will be higher, the EXP is completely gone. So, no more out levelling your opponents when rocking this bad boy.

Sweet Tooth will be slightly... sweeter

Old effect: Increases Honeyfruit healing effect, each fruit also provides bonus gold.

New effect: Increases Honeyfruit’s healing effect, each fruit also provides bonus gold when you or a nearby ally eat Honeyfruit.

The Honeyfruit is the plant that you'll see spawning in lanes, in the river and in the jungle, and it's one of the very few jungle camps that can either make or break a game (quite literally, when an opponent that you've just ignited runs away with 1HP, leaving you in a 1 for 0 trade).

Well, if you know this treat for other reasons, like for example a great laning tool, you would be also correct - all, except if you want to play support and your ADC gives you hell for taking the fruit and extra gold. With the Wild Rift patch 2.3, that will no longer be the case. The fruit will now grant the bonus gold to a nearby ally, so let's rejoice support mains!

4 New Champions will be released in Wild Rift patch 2.3

The champion pool is only getting bigger and bigger, and we couldn't be happier. Four new champions will be added to Wild Rift, and they will not just come - they'll bring some much-awaited events to celebrate their arrival.

The champions that we will get to see in Wild Rift 2.3 are:

  • Lucian
  • Senna
  • Riven
  • Irelia

Lucian and Senna will be released together

Lucian is a fairly mobile marksman champion, who uses his dual pistols to take down enemies in a flurry of well-aimed shots. Senna, Lucian's wife, uses a similar weapon, but she's mainly a marksman-support champion. Well, she can be anything, really.

While Lucian's kit can be quite one-dimensional (two-dimensional if you count the AP Lucian fiesta), Senna can be played in a multitude of ways. You have tank Senna (arguably a fun build that slowly died down in LoL), support Senna (which can unleash hell upon her enemies pretty much), and marksman Senna, who will outrange and outscale everyone, the more she stacks her passive. Sounds fun? You bet!

Riven and Irelia will be released together

Riven is a Fighter champion who also has quite a lot of mobility in her kit. She's basically a merciless fighter, who reforges her broken blade to inflict suffering upon anyone who stands in her way. She's fun to play and extremely versatile. However, much like Yasuo, Riven will require a lot of training before she can be "good" in anyone's hands.

Irelia, the Blade Dancer, is another Fighter champion that will be released together with Riven. She is a powerful Ionian hero who tirelessly fought off Noxian invaders to protect her land. Irelia is a champion who is extremely powerful in the right hands and will be able to carry many games by herself. Generally speaking, she's a favourite among LoL pro players, and I anticipate that to be the case for Wild Rift as well.

New skins coming to Wild Rift

Thanks to SkinSpotlights, we're also getting a list of possible skins that will come to Wild Rift! That is:

  • New icons
  • New baubles
  • New recall animations

The Wild Rift Season 3 Glorious Skin

At the end of each Season, players are rewarded for their hard work with a permanent skin that cannot be obtained any other way. This is the same mechanic that League PC uses, rewarding players with a Victorious skin (since Season 1). In Wild Rift, the season 3 Glorious skin will be... drumroll, please...

Glorious Lulu!
