A beginner's guide to League of Legends: Wild Rift: everything you need to know to win more games

When you just start playing League of Legends: Wild Rift, you could easily get taken aback by everything that's going on. The game is fairly quick-paced, and there are a lot of things that you need to keep track of. Below I'll give you a complete guide to everything that you should and shouldn't do in Wild Rift, and give you all the tips and tricks that will help you win more games.

If you want everything to go as smoothly as possible, and your learning experience to reflect into your gameplay, then make sure you check out our League of Legends: Wild Rift hub, where we've shared some in-depth guides to the roles, and much more.

1. Before you start playing a game, practice with the champions

You could be a complete beginner to the game, but if you already own a champion or two, make sure you check out their skills before you dive into the battle. You can read your champion skills by heading on to the Collection (second button), and then selecting the champion.

You can find their skills on the left side of the screen, so tap on them and read through them, to get a better understanding of how they should be able to do. You can also check out their preset items and runes by tapping on the Loadout button, located right underneath their Skill 3 ability.

Train with the champions in the Play -> Training -> Practice mode. There you can perfect your combos, try out interesting builds, and even come up with unique ones.

2. Take it slow and understand your role

Not every champion is supposed to carry games. Some champions are designed to support their team, others are specifically made to take objectives, and so on. Before you start a new game, make sure you know what your champion is designed to do, and really play into that role. For example, you can't play Blitzcrank carry, because he's not designed to function that way.

So, try to take your time and really understand what each champion should do, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and try to play around them.

3. Complete the Tutorials

The Tutorials can be found in the Play -> Training -> Tutorials, and they will reward you with a Champion Selection Chest once completed. I suggest that you do them ASAP because they'll prove very helpful if you haven't got a clue about how the game works. These tutorials will teach you some basic game mechanics, like how to better target your skills, and how each lane impacts the game differently. We've also got some guides for that, so make sure you check them out.

4. Do your Daily Missions every day

Every day you'll have a few daily missions that reward you with Blue Motes and EXP. I suggest that you do them every day because it won't take more than a couple of games to finish them. The EXP will help you advance in level, which will result in more Blue Motes, free champions, and other free loot.

By completing the Daily Missions you will also progress towards the Weekly Chests, which are 3, and give you the following rewards:

- Weekly Chest 1: Unlocked at 120 points, and gives you 150 Blue Motes, 10 Poro Coins, and 200 XP.

- Weekly Chest 2: Unlocked at 240 points, and gives you 175 Blue Motes, 15 Poro Coins, and 250 XP.

- Weekly Chest 3: Unlocked at 400 points, and gives you 200 Blue Motes, 25 Poro Coins, and 300 XP.

You will also have Challenge tasks, which give you a lot of Weekly Points, so you should have no problems collecting all the daily and weekly rewards, as long as you play regularly. Additionally, you can even reset up to 3 Weekly Challenges, if you find them too difficult!

5. Don't miss the in-game events

Many of the in-game events are time-limited, and they give players exclusive rewards. I suggest that you try and complete as many as possible because the chances are that the rewards they give will not be available anytime soon again in the game (the icons for example) unless they repeat the event or add a similar event at another time.

6. Minions are key

When you want to really win more games, nothing will help more than an exceptional farm. By killing more minions, you will earn more Gold and EXP, which will give you an advantage over the opponent. You should never skip a wave of minions for a player kill. The player kill will only be worth it if they're ahead and have a bounty. Otherwise, minions should always be your priority, unless you're supporting. Of course, even as a support, you want some EXP, because if you fall too far behind, you won't be able to help your team that much.

So, keep in mind: you should always prioritize the minions. Another objective could be the 3 tower plates you can take in the first few minutes of the game, which give you additional Gold.

7. Find the best settings for your playstyle

Playing the game with the right settings can make a WORLD of difference, believe me. If something doesn't feel right when playing, you should try to change it because it's going to make it a lot easier for you to play the game. For instance, you can set up to automatically target enemy champions and lock onto them. Or, you can auto-target the towers, or enemies with the least HP.

I suggest you play with all of the settings to better learn which ones work for you. Do that in the Play -> Training -> Practice mode, because you can close that anytime and try over.

8. It's better to main just a handful of champions

Try to stick to playing a small number of champions. You won't have a great impact on the game if you try to master every champion, and instead, you will end up playing them at a mediocre level. Furthermore, try to stick to playing the same role. If you shift between top and support constantly (as an example) it will be more difficult to shift from a role mentality to the other, so you'll end up making a lot of mistakes.

The best thing you could do is stick to one or two champions, and learn everything there is to know about them. It's going to be a lot easier to rank up fast if you learn all the matchups, builds, and what champions you can and can't play against in the laning phase.

9. Use pings and check the map constantly!

Pings are a quick and efficient way to communicate in-game. You can signal your allies to help you out, you can try to ping objectives, or ask for help. The pings are in the upper right side of the screen, and you use them by dragging and dropping them over the map that will pop up, to signal what you want to do.

They are visible for your entire team, and if you play with sound effects on (which you should, when possible), they will be pinged out loud (you'll hear the caster say "On my way!" or "Attack enemy tower" and the like).

Also, I'm just going to put this out there: supports shouldn't be the only ones to check the map. No matter what role you play, you should keep checking the map for the enemy players' location. To put it simply, if you don't know where the enemy is, you should play safe.

10. Learn how to attack and move at the same time

Another important element in the game will be moving and attacking at the same time. This is a tip that will help laners, especially marksmen. I suggest you try various settings and train to do it in the Practice mode because it will keep you alive in many situations.

It will be quite difficult if you're a complete beginner, but with several training sessions, you'll master it. It's basically a succession of using the attack button and position wheel in such a way, that you move and cast an auto-attack repeatedly. (that would be a very brief explanation). When you master this, you'll be able to kite enemies and do damage while you're moving.
