AFK Arena's latest character will be a very familiar face to fans of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series. Yes, legendary Italian assassin Ezio Auditore has now joined the game's giant roster of collectable heroes. Alongside today's announcement came a live-action trailer that you can check out below.
Ezio is arguably the series' most popular protagonist to date and has starred in three separate AC games: Assassins' Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations. For many, myself included, the Ezio era was a series highlight, even if Revelations couldn't quite live up to its predecessors.
Now, AC is barely recognisable as the series it once was, which might well have been necessary given how overfamiliar the earlier games eventually became. That said, we're now seeing the current loot-heavy RPG formula being leaned on a third time with the upcoming Valhalla, so maybe it's time for another change in direction.
If you're new to AFK Arena, it's a hugely popular fantasy RPG with a strong art style. It's now been downloaded over 40 million times globally and was nominated for Google Play's Best of 2019 Users' Choice Best Game Award.
Ezio's arrival is very welcome indeed, and you can grab him now for free until next Thursday, August 20th. After then, he'll become a paid character. AFK Arena is available for download now as a free-to-play game from over on the App Store and Google Play.
