Hatch Kids, a subscription-based games and education service for kids, out now on UK & Ireland Google Play Store

Subscription-based child-friendly app Hatch Kids has just landed on UK & Irish stores.

Hatch is easily one of the most compelling subscription services for mobile at the moment. The service, which delivers on most of the modern movements in mobile, is a subscription-based streaming service which includes a library of premium games, as well as a few exclusives (including Angry Birds Go! Turbo Edition). It's currently only available for Android, but the technology works, and it is one of my personal favourites to win among the other subscription-based platforms.

But, that's not why we're here.

The team between Hatch, have turned their experience in working with their main project toward a child-focused app, and it's come at the right time. In a time where most of the world is in lockdown, and most kids are currently being taught from home, there's a need for quality, controlled apps which can assist with the kids learning. I should know, I'm a father of three myself.

I grew up in a time where sitting in front of the TV, or playing on the computer too much, was frowned upon and seen as something that was very, very bad for you (or just made you a big ol' nerd). However, two of my children are currently receiving daily work from their teachers while they study at home, and the vast majority of it is to be done through computers. They have maths, music and reading all done through it, and even their language comprehension uses a computer screen.

So, reasonably, the Hatch team have a point when they say "Rather than worrying too much about the length of kids’ screen time, it is better to focus on the screen time quality instead."

There are about 90 games on the platform already, which includes games made by Rovio Entertainment, Sago Mini and Studio Pango among others. The games are also split by age and topic using what is actually a really clean and clear UI.

The app is free to download from Google Play, and there's a free game on there for toddlers which you can have a look at. The subscription is £6.99 a month, or £59.99 for the year and it has apparently already seen a lot of success in The Nordics where it previously launched. While I'm not too sure about the worth of the whole app, there are only two-three months left of the UK school year, so it could be a good consideration. If you're a Samsung owner then you actually get two months of premium free just by using your Samsung Members App.
