Practice perfecting your Ollies
Although this sounds simple, getting your Ollie jumps on point can be tricky initially. During your many runs, you will encounter obstacles and stairs among other things. And it's not like you have a super jump where you can clear these with ease. You have the time it right, and although it's not super difficult, it can be testing at the beginning.
If you just started playing, then you already know that you swipe up on the left side of your screen. Once you get in a rhythm, you'll be nailing jumps like a pro. The same goes for doing tricks like Kickflips and Heelflips. Getting that timing right will help you net some nice points.
Also, if you've played Alto's Odyssey, then you'll be familiar with the art of hopping over obstacles like rocks and such. Skate City plays fairly similar in that regard except you're skateboarding instead of sandboarding. Getting used to timing will help you immensely.
Check out the challenges
There are a slew of challenges that you can enjoy in Skate City. Some of these might ask you to perform a trick three times in a row, while others have you running from the cops. There is never a dull moment when it comes to challenges. They're fun, and then you can learn some things along the way.
The goal for each challenge is to try and get three stars. As you might expect, the more points you earn, the more stars you get. And don't worry, you don't need to get three stars to pass a challenge. If you can get one, you'll unlock the next row of challenges to play based on the city you're skating in.
The cool thing is that you get rewarded nicely for your efforts. You'll earn SC which you can use in the shop. If you can get three stars, then you'll earn a nice chunk of cash. One small, but useful feature is that the game automatically records your runs in challenges. This will allow you to instantly save to your phone for publishing on any social media platform you desire. So that means there's no need to swipe up that control panel screen and hitting that record button anymore (at least in this game).
Go shopping and grab your swag
The store in Skate City is pretty deep with many ways to swag out your skate legend. You can not only change the usual attire items such as shirts and pants, but you can deck (no pun intended) out your skateboard too to best suit your style. The clothing options are solid, whether you're cool with a t-shirt or a sweatshirt.
You can, of course, purchase hats and shoes also. The options for hats and shoes aren't quite as deep as shirts and pants, but they are solid overall. It's enough for you to make a fashion statement on the streets.
The board customization is fairly deep too, where you can choose from dozens of cool decks and wheels among other things. You can even buy some new trucks too. There are definitely a fair amount of options to choose from when customizing your board.
And don't forget that, you can upgrade your skills too while in the shop. These skills are Speed, Pop, Balance, and Spin. This is obviously a great way to improve your skills. Lastly, you will be able to add some new tricks to your repertoire. They are very expensive, but are great to have, and can give you a nice boost in points in challenges.
Relax and have fun in Endless Skate
Endless Skate is exactly what you think it is. It's a free roam mode where you can skate through the cities without worrying about scores or obstacles. This goes back to Alto's Odyssey where in there, you also had an endless mode where you could relax, take in the scenes and ride free.
It's the same thing here. Skate through the beautiful urban landscapes, listen to the music, nail some tricks and just enjoy yourself. And guess what? You can earn stars in Endless Skate too, which means you can score some SC, just by chilling out and exploring.
It's also an excellent way to practice using your tricks, especially if you just bought some new ones. Practice makes perfect after all, and what better way to do that than by freestyling? So have at it, work on your tricks, take in the scenery and chill out.
