Terraria gets a major update that finally adds controller support for iOS and Android

Terraria has now received a major new update that adds a host of control customisation options, including fully remappable controller support for Bluetooth-capable gamepads. If you've not been keeping up with the game, just know that control customisation has a player-requested feature for, oh, several years now.

And it looks like the update might well have been worth the wait, as we now have an incredible amount of control over how we want to play.

While we don't have an exhaustive list of all compatible gamepads, we do know that PS4 and Xbox One controllers both work well. You'll be able to rebind most actions on your controller, and it seems like a fairly straightforward process. If you'd rather not get creative, there are three default controller setups to choose from: Simplified, Advanced, and Console.

On top of controller support, the update also revises the player creation menu and provides a clear preview of what your character is going to look like. The world creation menu has been altered to match player creation, and the hairstylist and dresser windows are now both in-game popups.

A number of small bug fixes/improvements have also arrived. Multiplayer games will now time-out if they prove to be unreachable, some rare crashes have been sorted, non-equipment items can no longer be placed into equipment slots, and the grapple stick's accuracy has been improved. Ex-Editor Mark Brown reviewed Terraria all the way back in 2013, saying its "mix of creative crafting and endless exploration will keep you rapt for weeks". He did, however, lament the lack of multiplayer, which has obviously been added post-launch.
