It's that time again! Time for another entry into our long-running GAMES OF THE WEEK series. If you're looking for the best 5 games which have hit the iPhone, iPad or Android stores this week then you've landed yourself at the exact right place at just the right time.

With this article, we skirt around the droves of subscription services (Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass, GameClub, Hatch, et cetera) which have launched onto mobile platforms, and we also don't factor in things like Steam Link or Google Stadia which allow streaming to handheld devices. That means that our list is a finely curated list of brilliant, fresh titles which you can download and play without subscribing to, or installing, any third-party initiative. Of course, there are some great games on those services, but, let's focus on the stuff that you can grab right now.

This week we've got everything from RPG tycoon games all the way through to a pastel-coloured camping trip - with us stopping off at the strategy, auto-chess and fighting game genres along the way.

Remember, if you're looking to check through some of our previous selections then you can always do that at our Games of The Week Hub, it's a great way to find games to fill out that empty storage space on your phone. Or, if you like your news in bitesize chunks, delivered straight to your palm then maybe follow us on Twitter.

Anyway, without any further delay, click through on the big, blue button below to find out more about the 5 best new games for mobile this week.

1
Wide Ocean Big Jacket

Available on: iOS + Switch
Genre: Adventure

Wide Ocean Big Jacket

Games are escapism, we talk about that a lot. Sometimes that's escapism by blasting hell demons open with sawn-off shotguns, sometimes it's through exploring a retelling of a classic novel but with a choice-driven twist. Sometimes, however, they're little experiences, little slices of a day - moments of chaos or peace. Wide Ocean Big Jacket is definitely the latter.

You'll take on the role of various family members on a camping trip, it's a short experience but it's funny and emotional throughout its short playtime. While it might only come in at less than two hours of playtime, it'll stick with you for much, much longer.

Evil Hunter Tycoon

Publisher: SuperPlanet
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Simulation

Evil Hunter Tycoon

There's one company that comes to might when I think of fantastic tycoon games on mobile, and it isn't Super Planet. However, their latest outing, Evil Hunter Tycoon really stands up well alongside the output of tycoon-masters Kairosoft.

In it you'll be heading up the development of a village on the frontline of evil, providing services and opportunities for the droves of heroes who are flocking to make their name in combat against the forces of evil. You'll place buildings, order supplies and even list how many items your store is willing to purchase from heroes. That does get a bit micro-manage-y, especially if you want to keep your income up but it's worth it as you push through the multiple difficulties of the games, crushing your way through dungeons.

Teamfight Tactics

Publisher: Riot Games
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Strategy
Find out more about Teamfight Tactics
Teamfight Tactics

What the devil is Teamfight Tactics? Well, it's that latest foray into auto-chess, but this time it is from Riot - who you may well know as the developers behind League of Legends. If you've heard of the game before now, that's probably because the PC version has been doing exceptionally well of late - and apparently you'll be able to play cross-platform against that established userbase too.

So, if you're very keen on the strategy-placement style combat that goes hand-in-hand with the auto chess genre, Teamfight Tactics seems like it'll be one for you.

Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes

Developer: Crunchyroll
Publisher: Bandai Namco
Available on: iOS + Android
Genre: Action, Fighting, Multiplayer

Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes

Every anime crossover is undoubtedly the crossover of the generation, and the latest one of those is actually a crossover of generations, with Naruto pitted against Boruto in Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes. It's a turn-based battler which fuses the two eras together into a clever one-touch combat system.

Naturally, as we've come to expect, it's an incredibly cinematic experience, albeit one slowed down by the speed of the menu selection options. We have time though, we are, afterall, in the springtime of our youth.

5
Land and Castles

Find out more about

If you've been reading these articles for a while then you'll know that we love a good strategy game. They're incredibly hard to find these days, if mainly because style and input sometimes clash when it comes to the genre. Land and Castles might have a name which will struggle to stick out, but it's fun almost-lane based RTS gameplay is definitely a keeper.

You'll do all the traditional point capture, but with the ability to build new bases as you see fit. Beyond that it's a case of outpacing and outnumbering your opponents - something easy for the early tutorial levels, but tough as the game continues and you have to juggle defence from multiple routes as well as pushing forward on the assault.
