After taking over the publishing rights from EA, Scopely has now launched its own take on the classic word game Scrabble. Scrabble Go is said to offer a fresh take on the familiar title, serving up a number of social enhancements that should hopefully make it the definitive version for mobile.

You can, for example, easily invite and connect with friends and family through Facebook, WhatsApp, and your personal contacts. Naturally, you'll also have the option to compete with random players from across the globe.

It's a highly competitive experience with a focus on tournament-style matches. Beyond the standard Classic mode, there are three other main ways to play.

Modern mode offers a number of tools to help players improve their game, while Arena mode is all about daily and weekly word game tournaments. These include Word Drop, Tumbler, and Rush. Duels mode plays out in real-time over the course of five minutes and is played on a smaller board.

To celebrate the game's launch, Scopely has partnered with a number of celebrities for a charity contest. Running over the course of a month, Scrabble Go's Battle of the Boards sees celebs including David Spade, Rainn Wilson, and Mayim Bialik locked in intense word-based battle.

Here is a full list of the upcoming duos:

  • Mayim Bialik vs. Melissa Rauch
  • Jonathan Van Ness vs. Antoni Porowski
  • Whitney Cummings vs. David Spade
  • Alex Morgan vs. Megan Rapinoe
  • Rainn Wilson vs. Angela Kinsey
  • Tracee Ellis Ross vs. Yara Shahidi

You can keep an eye on their social media channels to stay up to date with the ongoing competition. The winner will be decided based on their final score, and Scopely will make a donation to the winner's charity of choice. On top of that, the duo with the highest total combined score will net a bonus contribution for their chosen charities.

Scrabble Go is available now as a free-to-play title from both the App Store and Google Play.
